Cyanotype Mural on Fabric

To make large fabric cyanotypes, I recommend buying the pre-treated 5X7ft pack made by Jacquard. It comes in an A4 cardboard pack and is folded. All you do is unfold it when you're ready to make a print and lay it flat, placing objects or people on the top as shown below.

The pre-treated fabric before exposure is a greeny colour. It's best to have some help, as it needs to be laid flat quickly with objects placed on it, as the sun's UV rays will start to work on the chemicals that the fabric is coated with.

You could cut up the fabric in a darkroom to make some smaller fabric prints

Once exposed, which will take just over 12 minutes, this was bright midday sun the day I made this one, you wash in cold tap water. Recommend placing it in a large basin and soaking it in water, changing it several times to make sure all the chemicals are washed out.

It will start to change colour to Prussian blue.

Then hang the sheet to dry in the shade so it is not in direct sunlight.

Once dry you have a beautiful cyanotype fabric mural print.

Please note that skin contact for prolonged periods with the fabric may cause an allergic reaction. Always do a test.
