Fieldnotes Jamaica

Fieldnotes Jamaica opens at The Hive Gallery on 29.07.22

Fieldnotes Jamaica is a new series of work by photo artist Tracey Thorne made in response to the global climate crisis by reflecting on the environmental challenges facing the Island of Jamaica.
This new body of work was created during the pandemic, a period that provided the artist with more time to look closely at the world which surrounds us and reflect on one of the defining issues of our time.
The images in the exhibition explore Jamaica through a wide environmental lens as well as drawing upon personal experience of living on the island, research and a long term interest in the typography of landscapes. The work seeks to highlight the fractured and altered natural landscape as a result of inharmonious human interference from Colonial times to the present day.

The exhibition is made up of a set of c-type photographic prints, cyanotypes (including work on some old postcards) and a large print on silk made by the artist.

The work will be exhibited in the gallery at The Hive, New Standard Works, Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham opening on the 29 July until 19 August 2022.
Opening times - Tuesday to Friday 10-4pm, Saturday 6 August 10-4pm and for evenings see the events below which all provide access to the gallery.
The exhibition will start off with an opening launch which is free to attend booking is recommended. Light refreshments provided.
