Altered Landscape Exhibition Opening
Updated: Apr 26, 2022
Free photography exhibition the Altered Landscape opens daily from Saturday 14 to the 31 August 10-4 pm. No need to book just drop in.

Altered Landscape is a new series of work by Tracey Thorne which traces the footsteps of her father who was a Cornish miner to explore the impact of decades of mining on the land in Cornwall.
The work explores the 'familiar' through a set of found objects that were discovered in 2011 when her father died. It provides opportunity to seek new meaning bridging the gap between memory and reality. These objects led to an exploration and revisiting of mining sites roughly located around two of Cornwall's mining districts; Gwennap mining district and the Camborne and Redruth mining district.
The new work provides scope to explore mining through the context of the artists own life and interest in environmental issues where it looks at the way mining changed the topography of the land, issues relating to water pollution and land use. It actively seeks to disrupt the popular narrative and love affair with mining in the region by inviting people to think about mining from the context of our evolving concerns about our environment. We can learn much from the past and by observing the land.
The exhibition is made up of a set of photographic prints and cyanotypes which are available to view daily via drop in. The gallery is located in the Chi an Bobel Building at Heartlands, in Pool, Cornwall access is free.
