Hello Alum Rock

Welcome to Alum Rock is a disposable camera project I ran with a group of women from Go Women Alliance, a community initiative based along the vibrant Alum Rock Road in East Birmingham.

Together, we created a photo series by taking a series of photo walks along the High Street, using Fuji Film and Kodak disposable cameras. We then curated the images into a series, which we used to produce a photozine.

As part of the project, we also transformed a selection of images into cyanotypes on fabric. To do this, we scanned 4x6 prints to create negatives and then used Jacquard pre-coated fabric cyanotype sheets on cotton to create a limited number of prints. The grainy effect of the disposable cameras worked beautifully with the cyanotype process, adding a unique texture to the final pieces.

Below are selected images from this collaborative project.

We used the Kodak 35 mm and the Fujifilm Quick Snap disposable cameras which has 27 frames and a flash if required. We found it was easy to use and works best on a bright day we didn't use the flash. Comes in single pack or a pack of 10 which was great for project work.
