Empty Chair

Fern cyanotype chair photographed on the new coastal road just outside Long Bay in Portland, Jamaica. The installation explores the loss of the natural environment during the widening and construction of the new coastal road. The road project represents a policy of dominance of the car in Jamaica over natural spaces and habitat.

Cyanotypes printed on Jamaican newspaper wheat pasted on a found rusty metal chair. Botanical cyanotypes made with wild roadside ferns found growing in Fairy Hill, Jamaica.

The installation is part of a new series of work called Fieldnotes Jamaica which explores the seductive destructive dissonance of climate change and environmental issues on the island.
